About
Lucia’s work is characterized by a sculptural approach, experimentation with material, the search for new shapes, and the creation of structures and forms executed through draping method combined with contemporary pattern cutting. Vibrant layered details are contrasting with a flat surface. Her style grabs the attention with features that resemble tying, knotting with a tightening insert depicting a contrast to the vigor. Fabric and pattern manipulation enable the presence of asymmetry in Lucia’s garments.
The designer often works with concepts portraying freedom, rampancy, subtlety, shyness contrasting with constraint, bindiness, roughness and intensity, that is reflected in the choice of materials. She creates timeless wearable fashion with distinctive and unmistakable style characterized by minimalism.
While studying fashion design at the Academy of Fine Arts and Design in Bratislava, Lucia Kürthi completed internships at the NEHERA Prague in Bratislava and at the Ann Demeulemmester in Antwerp. The path to the field of fashion design has not been straightforward. In the past Lucia has studied Italian language at the Constantine the Philosopher University in Nitra, Slovakia, part of which she spent at the University of Bari, Italy. She also lived abroad in various countries for some period. Her work is mainly influenced by her stay in Antwerp.
